Many organisations have reporting structures so complex, they need a team of people simply to produce monthly reports. This is clearly ineffective as a lot can change in a month and they’re simply looking backwards and seeing how well or how badly they did. In fact, this can be made worse by the fact that it takes almost a month to simply collect and process the data to use in the monthly reports. This might also be an indication that the underlying process has become too unwieldy and might be due a review.

Put in the time to understand the process and how best to measure it. With what frequency can this be measured realistically? Never forget that technology can help us here by automating many of these routines.
