The more I think about it, the more I believe that BI needs to be fast, agile and constantly changing to meet the changing needs of the business.
You must of course keep your corporate measures and KPIs in place for tracking performance against the strategic plan but you should also seek to learn what’s happening on the streets, so to speak. I remember finding loads of little problems when doing my rounds as an Operations Director simply by MBWA (Management by Walking About)
So ask yourself this question – Do you get second hand figures hidden away in amongst a multitude of other numbers, sheets and charts with no real connection between them – Or are you able to electronically walk the streets of your business (just like MBWA for BI)
